"You two are joining forces? How amusing..." - Brahne
I recently picked up on a playthrough of Final Fantasy IX that I started last year. When I got to the scene where Beatrix stands against Brahne, and Freya joins her, I started thinking; what was Freya's motivation to stay behind and fight? Alexandria wasn't her kingdom, and Dagger/Garnet wasn't her princess, so why did she choose to stay behind with Beatrix, who played a pretty big hand in the destruction of her own kingdom? Was it out of respect for Beatrix? To get even with Queen Brahne? An attempt to protect anyone she could? I personally think it was a spur-of-the-moment decision, probably made for all these reasons.
I know the picture itself dosen't really portray much, but I wanted to illustrate something from this scene. It took about three tries to finally have something halfway decent. The style of IX is really hard to draw in, I'm not used to doing super-deformed.
And one more point; I love Beatrix's hair. I wish mine could do that. Also, Freya is awesome.
I gained a newfound respect for the story of FF9 after playing through it a few months ago. Once, I thought it to be a pretty bad entry in the series; now I think it's probably the best entry in the Final Fantasy series from the Playstation era. It's far far better than the two that came before it, anyway.

One of the great things about IX is that it takes all the best parts of the 8 games that came before it and puts them together. It's a great homage to the series. I think the reason a lot of people didn't like it was that they started with VII and VIII, which were very sci-fi, and didn't really appreciate what IX was trying to accomplish. I agree with you, it's overall my favourite of the Playstation era (although X still holds the top spot).

Well it seemed to me that Freya wanted to protect Dagger but why side with Beatrix? I never got that. She beat the crap out of poor Freya then she sides with her? I don't understand that but I wanted Freya to go with Zidane and stuff. WOuld've made for a better story point I think.
I still don't compleletly get why Freya chose to stay behind. I guess even if she can't forgive Beatrix, she knows that she means well, and dosen't want to see her die.

Still how could Freya, after having her home destroyed and THEN having the living hell beaten out of her forgive her? OK Beatrix was acting on orders but I could never forgive someone not after they pounded me. It wouyld've made more sense for her to go with Zidane. She could've looked for Fratley in the Outer continent.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
